Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
warrant for arrest
A warrant for my arrest has been issued because I failed to appear in court on a previous awarded settlement to my creditor which I have failed to pay back and failed to appear on June 4 2009 a summons I did not receive. I will not have a lawyer tomorrow can they arrest me? I hope this enough info so you can give me some idea as to what I will be walking into. Thank you

Re: warrant for arrest
Your arrest warrant is called a "capias," and it's purpose is to compel you to show up in court for a hearing. By showing up voluntarily, you will have made the arrest warrant unnecessary for its intended purpose. You will not be arrested when you show up, but Im sure you will have to address the issue of paying off the awarded settlement.
