dui in 1986 ish
Do I have to answer yes as being a defendant for criminal offense on my LTC app due to a dui in the mid 80's

it depends on the question, and the disposition.

I think that the answer is self evident. Unless the questions asks only from the 90's on, of course you have to answer yes. DUI/OUI is a criminal offense and I presume you were a defendant. I don't understand where the ambiguity lies. If it asks if you were ever convicted, that depends on the outcome. If it asks if you were a defendant, no matter how many people you ask or what they say, I think you know the answer. It is YES.

The answer seems apparent unless it asks for charges post 1986-ish. Failure to answer truthfully on an Application for a License to Carry a firearm is a criminal offense.
