Nursing Homes
My mother died in a Nursing Home. One month after her death the Nursing Home call me and my brother and tell us she owes $12,000. and medicare won't pay until we give them all her bank statements.

Usually, if the nursing home is looking for bank statements, it's because they want to file a claim for MEDICAID payments from MassHealth.
Unless your mother almost nothing in assets, do yourself a favor and schedule a consultation with me or another elder law attorrney before giving the nursing home anything. Depending on the facts, it's possible that her estate might owe little or nothing -- or if she owes something, it may be less than the nursing home claims.
