Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I am a 17 year old female in the state of Massachusetts. My boyfriend is 22 and lives in Rhode Island. My mom found out about him and threatened to have him arrested if we even text each other anymore. Can she do that? We don't have a sexual relationship.
