Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Im 22 years old and have a 4 year old daughter whom im no longer with her father. I was never married and have try to go to court to get child support I was told i could not get child support but if my daughter ever for any reason needed health insurance that she would then be suppiled insurance through her fathers. I have contacted social security because my daughters father is on what i beleave is SSI. They have told me twice now that my daughter is not entiltied to any benefits. Im not sure what else i can do to try to get my daughters father to help with money. He is not in her life nor has he even tryed to be . I do not think its right that due to the fact that he"s on SSI he dont have to take care of his responsibility"s . He does live on his own ,has worked under the table jobs and does have another child . If this man can make a child why dont he have to help take care of her? Is there any thing i can do to try to get some child support from him?

I don't know why youwere told you can't get child support. You can if you can establish that this man is the father of your daughter. It sounds like you need help to do this. You can hire a lawyer or you can go to the Department of Revenue and request that they establish paternity and collect child support. DOR is free but will take much more time than an atttorney. If you can't afford attorney fees, then you should contact DOR. A good place to start is the DOR web site.
