Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Abuse from my husband and his family.

I have been with my husband for 9

years. We have a 4 year old son and

have been married 1 year. He has

been verbally and mentally abusive

to me over the years but I thought

that things would change with

marriage and it has not. His family is

also very abusive to me and very

controlling. I have had them

demand that I do as they say on

several occasions and I can no longer

live like this. I was recently told that

I am to be at every holiday gathering

whether I like it or not and that I

have no choice. I have a family

myself and I would like to see them

as well but my husbands family

prevents that. My husband is afraid

of his bullying father so he in return

agrees with his family and then

bullys me. I have thought of divorce

but I know that they will make it

difficult for me. They have also told

me what I can and will do with my

son. Please tell me what my rights

are in this matter. Especially in

regards to his family. Thank you.

Gregory Lee Gregory P. Lee, Attorney at Law

Re: Abuse from my husband and his family.

You need an attorney right away, and you need to prepare for battle. Unless you have substantial drug, alcohol, or psychiatric issues yourself, custody is likely to go to you even after a battle -- but it may well be an ugly battle.

I urge you to contact an attorney in person as soon as possible. I practice in your area, am familiar with Norfolk court, and extend reduced rates to clients in real need.
