Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

adoption

I am 12. My step dad adopted me when I was 4 and now he and my mom have divorced. He's mean and I don't want to even talk to him. What are my legal rights?

Re: adoption

Once an adoption becomes final, the law considers your step-father to be your actual father. He is considered your father even if he and your mother get divorced.

You should tell your mother how you are feeling. She may be able to alter whatever custody or visitation schedule you currently have. As a 12 year old, a court should begin to take your preferences and desires into consideration when making a decision.
