Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Affordable legal assistance

I have a friend who is in need of legal assistance for a very complicated divorce, due to false domestic violence charges filed against him and credit card debt that was incurred after his leaving the marriage last July. He is currently paying 1/2 is paycheck in temp. support for a woman who claims to now have physical disabilities/mental duress, etc. There are no children. She has a high-powered attorney. Everytime he gets called into court, he gets clobbered. Now, he being required to respond to an interrogatory that he can barely underdstand, nevermind respond to. He has called many area legal agencies to try and get help and has yet to receive a returned phone call. Part of the problem is that his annual salary does not qualify him for help. Other lawyers require a $3,000 retainer, which is not possible for him. Any advice. P.S. Although I understand the reasoning behind the domestic violence laws, they seem unconstitutional (i.e. guilty until proven innocent) where are the checks and balances, especially if you can't afford representation?

Re: Affordable legal assistance

Have him go to http://www.fatherhoodcoalition.org and call their HOTLINE.

He should also join their listserve. The other fathers will lead him step by step through the process.
