once alimony is set can it be changed if the paying party buys and then sells property for profit that was not owed by them during the marriage...

if there is a material change of circumstances, and depending on the terms of the court order, even alimony could be modified.

Depending on the terms of the Divorce Agreement/Judgment, alimony may be modified upon evidence of a material change in circumstances. Good Luck!

If the payor's income has increased since the time of the Judgment, regrdless of how that income is earned, your alimony can be revised provided that the change is "material" usually 20% or more, and asuming your divorce agreement merged into the judgment, thereby permitting Modification proceedings. Each case is different, but these are the general principles.
