Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
Annul my marriage of force and threat
I recently married in October, 2008 and as the marriage goes a long I am starting to find out certain things about this perosn. For one I was forced and threatened to get married because I wasn't ready at the time and I was also expecting a baby from a previous relationship. I just recently found out that this person is also not legal which realy shocked me. I don't know what I got myself into and now I'm trying my best to seek help to get out of this forceful marriage. I would like to know the cost of an annulment in Boston, MA

You can seek annulment on the basis of fraud. The cost depends on the amount of work needed to be done.
Re: Annul my marriage of force and threat
An annulment my or may not be possible, but a divorce certainly is. The difference is that annulment says the marriage never existed, while a divorce of course simply terminates it. From a legal perspective, annulment is only of value if you have a religious view to protect (and a civil declaration of "no marriage" does not bind your religious authorities).
The cost of either proceeding varies from lawyer to lawyer. Please feel free to contact me, or any other lawyer on this site. For more information on my practice and fee scales, please feel free to visit my website.
If there is violence or threat of violence, you can obtain a restraining order even when the courts are closed by going to your local police. They will contact an "on-call" judge, and the judge will issue his or her order through them.
