Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Back child-support

My ex owed me nearly $12000 in back payments for our 2

children. This amount spanned over several years.

He finally agreed to do major work in my home and has

quoted me various "charges" for his work, which I

intended to deduct from his overdue payments. I cannot

get him to give me a definite amount, and he has said:

$5,000, then 6,000. I don't know what he owes me, and

he won't cooperate. Can I put a lien on a house that

he owns? How can I get proof of this prior

agreement?I cannot afford a lawyer, and I think he

will say he doesn't owe me

Re: Back child-support

If your support was Court ordered I would suggest you proceed under an action of contempt to collect arrearage. It would not be prudent to work out a non-court sanctioned arrangement with your ex. Given the amount of arrears you claim due I cannot see how you can let this matter go without the assistance of a competant family law attorney. It appears your ex has ability to pay on arrears. If you wish further assistance and are located in Worcester County i would be willing to have a brief consult to discuss your options to persue your ex and paymnt plans for legal fees.
