Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
Change Attorney in midst of child support case
My fiance retained an attorney to represent her in a child support case. During the initial consulation this attorney said all the right things. Since being retained she has proven to be insensitive, unprofessional and has flat out admitted she does not have time for my fiance's case. She is never perpared and does not remember prior meetings. I have suggested to my fiance that she fire the attorney immediately and seek another. However there is a court date scheduled for 2 weeks from now and that is a lot of pressure under which to try and find another lawyer. What are the options?

This should be enough time if you get a substitute counsel.

Re: Change Attorney in midst of child support case
This case should not be overly complicated unless there is an issue of attributing income that is not actually being earned. A reasonably astute and caring attorney can prepare in the time given. You should look elsewhere with the time you have.
I would be remiss if I did not say that I am both reasonably astute and caring, and would be willing to provide at least an initial consultation.
