Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

change the last name of my son

Hello, my son is almost 2 and was given his father's last name. We both have decided to change his last name to a hyphenated name with mine --name removed-- and his father's (Smith). How do we legally change his name?

Re: change the last name of my son

You will have to go to your county's probate and family court and file a petition for a name change. Both you and the father will have to sign off on the name change and it will be allowed.

If you need help with the process, please don't hesitate to contact me.
