Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Changing my last name

I have been divorced for 12 years and I am considering taking back my maiden name. I have two adult sons(ages 26 and 24)and they would like to change their last name to my maiden name also.

Can my sons legally change their last name? If so, what is the process in Massachusetts for changing their last name?

Re: Changing my last name

In Massachusetts and other states people have a common law right to change their name. To do this all you have to do is start using your new name and use it consistently. You can't change your name if you are doing it for fraudulent purposes. Otherwise, you can choose any name you want.
