is this chil abandonment

My sister has 5 kids all live with her the youngest son is 4 and she is no longer with him .. 4 of the kids goto school and the 4 yr old she drops off at the grandmothers while she works.. she has not been with the father for about 3 yrs.. she now has a new boyfriend she has been with for over 2 yrs abd the granmother is threatning to file saying child abandonment because she does not want my sister with this guy... even though the grandmother does watch the son while she is in work and takes him on the weekend sometimes can she claim child abandonment.. and try to get custody of the child? could you please let me know thank you very much

More facts would be helpful. However, child abandonment requires more than using grandmother as a babysitter.

If the grandmother's dislike of the boyfriend is reasonable (e.g., he abuses kids or your sister), your sister my be considered to be neglecting the children by allowing the man to remain in her life and theirs.
