Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
Child Custody
I am a mother of a sweet five year old daughter. My ex husband divorced me three years ago. He has beaten me on 3 occasions all documented by police and with restraining orders. He goes for a month at a time without seeing her.
He has now moved his 18 year old daughter from a previous marriage into his home, and she has a pit bull that he will not secure for my daughter's visits. She is frightened to death to go to her father's house. I have asked him to secure the dog while she is visiting him, and he refuses! I asked him if he would give me a notarized letter assuring the dog would not be there or otherwise secured. He refused, and then also began to verbally assault, threaten, and promised he would take me to court first thing this Monday August 20, 07, to prove to the court I am a bad mother and he should have custody. I am 43, no resources, trying to finish my college education in Medical Assisting. I have had substance abuse problems in the past but have been sober 5 years. I also have panic attacks that he also uses against me. What can I do to prove I am a great Mom and will do anything to hold to the one person I love more than anything What should I do right now?

Re: Child Custody
The pit bull alone is a solid basis to suspend visitation, and to refuse an order of custody. I would be happy to consult further with you.
