Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Child custody with unwed parent residing in different states

If the mother of a child is reward sole custody and the father is made to pay child support, he is automatically granted visitation rights or can the mother petition that? And if he is given visitation rights how does that work were we live in different states? We have never been married.

You statement is unclear. To the extent that I understand it, you are asking whether the father of the child is automatically entitled to visit his child. I would like to think that a mother would not stand in the way of a father visting his child unless there are some extraordinary reasons, and especially if each parent lives in a different state. If you are asking whether you can block a visit to the father if a visitation schedule is not ordered by the court, then there are other facts that are missing which cannot be addressed by your question.
