Re: child support

Yes, but you have to file with the court immediately. If you wait, the court will not look back and forgive any unpaid amounts.

The vast majority of non-custodial parents who are in arrears on their child support obligations are behind due to unemployment, work related injury, or disability, and never go to court to get the amount lowered to reflect their current income. Don't end up as the "deadbeat" whose picture is on the wall at the court or post office. File with the court immediately or you will end up losing your driver's license, possibly under arrest (if you drive after license suspension), and unemployable since you won't be able to get to and from work.

Re: child support

Please also note that your application for SSD should be handled vigorously, and your principal treating psychiatrist should write a report after reviewing the "Listing of Impairments" with regard to your bipolar syndrome. THis maximizes your chances of getting the SSD. Once you -have- SSD, the court will order you to simply provide the child benefits directly to the custodial parent. The child benefits are part of the award, so long as you have a minor dependent.

I am familiar with both Social Security law and family law, and would be glad to be of assistance. Please feel free to contact me.
