Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Child Support

I was just notified that there is a possibility that I may have a daughter that I never knew about. She is 13 years old. Her mother never told me about this until now. I have agreed to take a paternal test to find out for sure. Is there any way I can protect myself and my family from the possibility that her mother and husband might try to get back support for the child for the previous 13 years? Since I was never made aware of the situation, I do not think they have the right to persue that option.

Re: Child Support

You should get a lawyer. If you're the adjudicated father, you are technically responsible for support. Whether she can get that back support depends on a lot of things, including, her current station in life, her ability to earn income, the child's needs if any, etc. Chances are, you will be responsible for some support - assuming she seeks it. So you're better off getting a lawyer to best protect yourself.
