Re: child support order
If your order is a Massachusetts support order, you pay support until the child is emancipated. THis means:
-18, and done with high school, UNLESS the child remains proincipally dependent on and domiciled with the other parent.
In addition, if the child was born of a marriage, and you are divorced, the court can order you to continue to pay support, maintenance, and education costs until the child is 23, if the child is enrolled in undergraduate or equivalent studies.
The child is at MOST able to obtain one bachelor;s dgree, or reach the age of 23. Thereafter, the court does not have the statutory authority to order payment of further support, maintenance, and education costs.
Child support can be VERY fact-driven. Please feel free to call or e-mail me for a more specific consultation.
