Child support

I'm pregnant, unmarried living in CA. Father lives in Mass. When, how and where do I file for support and do I have to file for custody also?

Re: Child support

If the child was conceived in California or the residence of the minor child is California then you may proceed to file your paterity action in California. There may be other reasons to file in California. Also, you may request support without requesting custody, however it may be advisable that you seek both. If you need assitance then you should contact my office at 310-839-7700

Re: Child support

You might try talking to attorney's in California and Mass. to see what they would cost to bring a paternity action. You can try Department of Child Support Services, however, you lose control of your case and it could take several months (if not a couple of years) before an order is effective. If the Father lived in California or you got pregnant in California then you can bring the action in California, which is better for you. You must bring the custody action in California as that will be the home state of the child. Get a couple of consultations and you will be better informed before you make a decision. Good Luck, Pat McCrary

Re: Child support

How far along are?

How old are you?

How old is he?

Are you working?

Is he working?

Why did you sleep with him if you were not going to stay around?

Or am I jumping to conclusion: Was he in CA and then leave?

Does he know you are pregnant?

Are you sure it is the child of the man in MA?

Do you expect your child to KNOW his or her biological father?

Or are you just looking for a wallet?

Why did you not think about making a child into

half an orphan before you started to bring the child into the world?
