U.S. citizens married in New Zealand living in US

we were married in New Zealand which is legal in the U.S. the question is to get a divorce do we need to go back to New Zealand or can it be done in the states?

If it is a valid marriage, you can file for divorce in the probate court in the county wherein you reside.

It depends on the jurisdiction. In Massachusetts, with certain exceptions, you genrally have to have resided in the commonwealth for one year prior to the divorce.
