Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

College Tuition Statement

Is it correct that I am unable to receive a duplicate bill from the college that my daughter receives even if I am paying for half of the tuition? They claim the Federal Government holds them to student privacy laws.

Re: College Tuition Statement

Yes, this is correct. the child is an adult, and his or her privacy must be respected by the college.

However, the Court can require that the residential spouse give you copies of the bill to which he/she has access and FAFSA applications made to cover same. In simpler terms, what he/she gets to see, he/she should pass on to you. If you really have a doubt, you should consider a modification or (if there is already a clear order) a contempt.
