Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
divorce decree transfered to another state.
Can I have a New York divorce decree transfered to Boston, Ma where I have been living for the past seven years? Unfortunately, my ex husband is not obeying the divorce terms and I'm not capable to travel to the courts in NY to fix the matters at hand. I really need help.

Massachusetts Courts must enforce the final valid judgments of all other states. The issue is not one of transfer of judgment. The issue is jurisdiction over the ex-husband. The ex-husband must have sufficient contact with Massachusetts that it is fair to make him defend an action in Massachusetts. If you can serve him in Massachusetts this will be sufficient contact for most actions. You may not be able to change portions of the New York judgment but you should be able to enforce it.

If it is mainly a question of enforcing the support provisions, visit your local Massachusetts District Court Clerk's office and request their assistance in filing a Reciprocal Support Statute action that will be served on him in a New York court of similar jurisdiction where he will be made to answer as to why he is not abiding by the New York Divorce Judgment. Good Luck.
