Re: Divorce

There is no such thing as a court appointed attorney for a divorce. If you are poor enough you may qualify for assistance through a public legal service group.

A good attorney and assuming you and your ex do not fight too much about the division of assets then the cost should not be too much.

Good Luck.

Re: Divorce

You cannot get a court appointed attorney for divorces.

Your situation doesn't seem complicated but you will want an attorney to draft the separation agreement for you and also to split the retirement account.

For retirement accounts, you can't simply withdraw the money and give 1/2 of it to your spouse. When you withdraw money, you will incur taxes and penalties if you're not of qualifying age. You will need an attorney to help you draft a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) to split those funds properly.
