divorced in one state not living in another

i was divorced in New Orleans, LA

not i live in MA (because of Katrina) my ex Husband (non custodial parent) has filed for a better visitation schedule (alto he just move for NJ to Fl) i have no issue with visitation as long as my 10 yr old does not fly alone. what state do i need the lawyer in Ma where we (me and my son have lived for 3 yr) or la?

If it is the Louisiana Divorce Order that he is trying to modify in the Louisiana Court, you will need to retain a Louisiana Attorney. If he has filed some action in a Massachusetts court, you will need to retain a Massachusetts attorney.

If your ex did file in LA, It may be possible to ask the LA court to assent to MA having jursidiction over this case, as the child has been present in MA for the last three years and neither party lives in LA any longer. Your argument would be that the best interest of the child would be best served in MA.
