Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I'm divorcing my husband of 2 months. He went to England days after we got married, and I was supposed to join him. Realized shortly after I was unhappy in the marriage. I did file for divorce, but the papers got returned to me saying he needs to be a MA resident for more than one year before I can file. He is not cooperating. He's cheated and blackmailed me since I told him I wanted a divorce. What can I do?

Unfortunately, you were misinformed. So long as you are a resident and the breakdown of the marriage occured in Massachusetts, you can get divorced. Go to the court and speak to someone who is better informed about the filing process or retain counsel to help you. Good luck.

I agree with attorney Wons. You should retain counsel to assist you in what will likely be a fairly simple divorce, at least with respect to division of property and assets. Feel free to call us first thing Monday morning. 617-357-4898.
