Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Dor

i have a court order for child support (9/2000. At the time we had the option of DOR being notified of the support, but not their involvment-The payments were always directly deposited into my account from his bank.

There have been a number of instances in the past couple of years now-where he has either been late paying or has made a double payment 2 weeks later. I just filled out DOR paperwork at Probate court here in Spfd, MA-regarding their assistance.

My question-how long does it usually take for them to take action, and will they re-assess the child support?( my daughter will be 13 in may). Thank You for your help.

Re: Dor

If you think the situation is bad now, with your ex making a couple of late payments over the past couple of years, wait until DOR gets involved. DOR is capable of sending your money to the wrong address, holding onto checks for weeks, not keeping track of checks, losing checks, etc. I'm not saying it happens to everyone, but if you're one of the unlucky ones, you could be on the phone for hour after hour trying to straighten things out and wondering why you have not gotten a check for a month.

I advise my clients not to deal with DOR unless it is an emergency --- like there has been no payment for months, or your ex switches jobs frequently.
