Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Emancipation or Change of Legal Guardianship

17 year old was kicked out of his house the other day. Doesnt want to go back, and arrangements have been made for him to live with us. Do we need to obtain a legal guardianship or have him emancipated, and which would be easier? What is the process for doing this?

Also, he was not able to retrieve his personal belongings, and he needs many of them soon, such as his uniform for work and his bank book, as well as just clothing.

How do we go about getting these things?

Re: Emancipation or Change of Legal Guardianship

I would suggest that you file for guardianship with the young man's assent. That will also allow a petition for support from the parents. Go straight to the Probate Court in your county with the young man; you can probably get an emergency order today.
