Your ex-husband must obey the court order. If the court order allows him to stop paying alimony when he is laid off, then he can do that. Otherwise, he must continue to pay alimony regardless of his employment. He can file a modification action to reduce alimony. However, until he files a modification and obtains a court order reducing the alimony, he must continue to make payments.
