Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

What to expect?

I'll be representing myself at a pre-trial conference next week for a modification to my separation agreement. The ex and I couldn't reach agreement when we met this week.

What should I expect from the judge? My understanding is that the judge typically tries to 'nudge' the parties to come to terms by suggesting how he might rule in a trial. Is this correct?

Re: What to expect?

You will most likely be sent to Probation ("Family Services"), which will undertake the "nudging" (mediation) process. Some judges will suggest possible outcomes from the bench. Others will not.

Re: What to expect?

You will probably be sent to family services for mediation to see if they can nudge you to settle. The judge may or may not try to nudge you him/herself.

Good luck
