Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Expected costs to divorce someone I have not lived with for 25 years. He lives in the same city, we have 2 adult children and I bought a home after we broke up that he has never contributed to.

Every attorney charges a different amount to complete a divorce, and it depends upon the nature of the divorce you and your spouse require.

If you and your spouse are capable of agreeing on each and every term of your divorce (division of your real property, assets, debts, issues of alimony, child support, and custody), then you are probably able to file a joint petition for uncontested divorce. There is a $215 filing fee, as well as the cost of a parent education program. Otherwise, you will need to file a complaint for contested divorce and submit your marriage and property to the court.

Our firm charges a flat fee for uncontested divorces, and I would be happy to schedule a consultation if you are just looking to explore your options.

To the extent that the two of you can file a joint petition, the costs are minimal.
