I have a step-daughter who i turning 18 in July and is planning to attend college in the Fall. What I need to know is child support still paid to the mother if the child decides to move out into her own apartment?

The prior answer is accurate to apoint. While the payment "is not automatic," if not already in a judgment or order, the fact is that the court WILL order that "support, maintenance, and education costs" be paid in all but the most rare of circumstances. Refusing to reasonably agree could cost sanctions or attorneys' fees. In addition, the child must be "domiciled" with the parent -- thus, she should continue to vote, register her car, etc. at the mother's home. Finally, please note that the Court can direct how much the mother should pay directly toward college.

This is a fact based question.
If the child attends college full-time, the parent is eligible for child support either until the child is 23 or until the child fails to attend full time, which ever comes first.
If this is not part of a court order, then this is not automatic.
