Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

father

my question is what would i be ble to do if the father of my baby decited not to bring my dugther back.We havent gone to curt yet but working on it we have no papers and he hasnt been avble to take his child becouse someone told me that if he decited to take her i wount be ble to do nothing cose there is no paper work from court saying who has the baby. So please tell me if he ever doesnt wnat to bring my baby back what could i do ?
