Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

My friend and his wife are getting a divorce. The wife is trying to get my friend to sign a document stating that any future lottery winnings or inheritence cannot be used for any future family or children he may have. Is this possible? I realize all he has to do is not agree, but for some reason he thinks she can get away with this. Would a judge actually rule on that?

I have never heard of anything like this before. Your friend should get his own attorney to make sure that this separation agreement is fair and will be acceptable to the court. If his soon-to-be ex is putting clauses like this in the agreement, there's no telling what else is in there.

My firm charges a reasonable flat fee for representation in uncontested divorces. I assist my clients in negotiating and preparing a suitable separation agreement, all necessary financial documents, pleadings. I make sure that my clients comply with parent education and other requirements of the court, and attend each hearing with my client.

If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to have your friend contact me at 617-357-4898.
