Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I am going in front of the judge next week on another Temp Motions hearing. My son's father and I were never married, son is 9, father has been verbally and physically abusive. We lived together for 2 years and he abused us the whole time. DCF was involved 2 times and found the allegations of child abuse and child neglect to be supported against him. He hit me in front of our son and we have a restraining order. He hadn't seen him in almost 2 years, then he asked for visitation. Not only did he get supervised visitation, but he also got joint legal. I don't understand. We had a court evaluation done, which proved the abuse and also said that visits should be supervised. I filed the temp motions hearing so that I can get sole legal back and ask for the visits to be held at a visitation center. What are my chances of this? My son has endured enough abuse, and I am struggling everyday with him because of it, but I cannot have him with this animal anymore. Please help.

The Court generally will bend over to keep some connection between parent and child. If there has been physical abuse or threats, have you applied for a restraining order?
