Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

is gift money a marital asset?

I'm getting divorced. My mother gifted me my ''inheritance money'' from the sale of her house before her death since she wanted to see me and my sisters enjoy our inheritance. This money ($36,000) was given solely to me while I was married. Will this be considered part of the marital assets and divided as so?

All money is at least arguably a marital asset. However, this probably will not be divided, as it does not sound as if it was ever used for marital purposes.
