Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

health insurance and divorce

We have commonwealth indemnity GIC health insurance. I read that if I divorce my husband my insurance ends. I have had a kidney transplant and medications alone are a fortune. Can I divorce and still keep my health insurance through my husband?

Re: health insurance and divorce

To the extent your husband's insurance carrier permits it you can be covered. If you do not have an attorney representing you in your divorce you should as the medical issues need to be properly handled.

Also, you should know that Kidney transplant patients are almost always covered by medicare. I suggest you look at AAKP's website for information.

Good Luck
