Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Hello

I heard that a new law was passed a couple of years ago regarding longterm marriages that end in divorce in Massachusetts. Supposedly if you were married for 20 yrs and you get divorced; if the ex-spouse becomes disabled at any time they can come back at you for money. Meaning if they can't work you would have to support them. Is this true? Thanks Kim

It is not a new law. If a person becomes disabled and must rely on the government to survive then a former spouse may be ordered to support them instead of the State.

I would caution that there are many factors involved here. An analysis of the type of situation you describe would have to be done for a very specific fact pattern.
