Judges and Code of Ethics

1. Who does a judge answer to?

2. Do they abide by any code of ethics?

3. Can a judge ever get barred and if so...how?

Judges are bound by the same cannons and ethics as attorneys. There is also a code of judicial conduct.

MA Judges are subject to discipline by the SJC.

A judge can be removed from the court for disciplinary matters.

As to removal from a case, there is a process whereby a judge may recuse (remove) him or herself from a particular case voluntarily or by motion of an attorney.

Attorney's rarely make such Motions.
