Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
Legal Separation
what exactly does a legal separation mean? Does it mean you are legally separated so you can more or less get on with your life while you are waiting for the divorce proceedings? does it mean that you could date someone and not be considered commiting adultery?

Re: Legal Separation
Massachusetts does not recognize "legal separation" .
There is separate support however. Separate support is
used to get a support order without filing for divorce.

Re: Legal Separation
Massachusetts does not have "legal separation." We have divorce or separate support. Separate support is a court judgment for living apart but the parties are still married. Since it takes as much time and money as a divorce, this is generally used by people who have a religious objection to divorce. In Massachusetts if you have sexual relations while you are married, even if you are getting divorced, you will commit adultry.
