Does filing for divorce affect your ability to get a loan? If so, how?

Re: Getting a loan

In Massachusetts, when you file for divorce, you are placde under an automatic restraining order against incurring improper debt. Some banks are thus cautious about giving the loan. As the loan is likely to be for a non-marital purpose, you would have to expect to assume it.

You are allowed to obtain loans in the regular course of your business, and to pay your attorney's fees.

Should you wish additional assistance, I would be happy to consult.

I agree with Greg.

It depends on the purpose of the loan.
