Marriage in India and divorce in USA
I got married (arranged marriage
through matrimonial ad in
Newspaper) in Dec 2006 in India.
Came back to Boston In first week of
Jan 2007 and My wife joined me in
Boston on Feb 28, 2007. Because of
total mismatch and incompatibility I
had to send her back to India in last
week of April 2007. I want a divorce
but wife's family is demanding huge
money for that. I want to know that
can I get a divorce from here. My
main concern is that the divorce
obtained in USA would be valid in
India or not. I don't want to endup in
a difficult situation if I eventually go
back to India. I came to Boston in
March 2005 on J1 visa.

You have grounds for a divorce here. Most countries adhere to a full faith and credit standard which means if the divorce is valid here then it will be there as well. You should contact an attorney in India as I am not licensed there and am not familiar with their laws and procedures. Also you should talk with an immigration attorney about your status in the US.
