Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I was married to an American Citizen on July 6th 2002, he lived here in Canada with me from August 2002 till January 2003. He went back home to the MA,USA, applied there for a divorce on false grounds. Now this is the question since he didn't live in the USA for that time frame is this divorce legal or not legal. I have been told several times that we are still legally married even from US customs people when I try to cross the border. Been also told that we should apply here in Canada to make this divorce legal. Please someone help me figure this out because its causing many of problems.

It depends. When did he file for divorce and on what grounds? Were you ever served with the divorce papers? Did you ever respond to the divorce pleadings in MA? Did you live with him in MA? How long was he in MA before he field for divorce? Is he a US resident or citizen?

If you provide me with the answers I can better advise you.
