Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

i have been married for 15 years 2nd marriage for both of us no children together i woork 2 jobs and my husband retired 10 years ago, about 3 years ago he stopped contributting to the household, will give me money periodically. would it be less money if i went for a legal seperation or diviorce. we barely speak to each other and stay in seperate rooms of the house.

Hello,

"Legal separation" does not exist in Massachusetts. You may file either a complaint for separate support or a complaint for divorce. With regards to whether you would receive money from your husband completely depends on what the financial situation in your marriage is. You have not included any figures in your inquiry.

A 15 year marriage in Massachusetts in an intermediate length marriage. Alimony is sometimes awarded on a case by case scenario depending on the details of the marriage. I suggest you speak with a divorce attorney prior to making any decisions.
