Re: Mass Law = Child Custody

All parents owe a duty of support for children, regardless of custody. THe physically custodial parent provides the support by providing a roof, as it were. The non-custodial parent pays child support pursuant to the Guidelines.

Legal custody may be shared by agreement in paternity cases. Legal custody is not presumed.

It is always wise to have legal counsel to assist and explain when you are making long-term legal decisions.

The simple answer is if you have joint physical custody then it is unlikely to charge child support. Any other means then support will be required. THere are other issues as well including visits, insurance, & education.

Personally, it is my view that an attorney should be part of your equation.
