Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

no more money

the day before my child turned 18 i found myself in court for child support . my lawyer advised me to just go along with what the mother wanted, that i did not have a good chance. i left agreeing to pay $350/week plus come up with $9000 for one years college. this was in oct 06'. currently am supposed to be in court on may 8 for 16 yrs past child support for a child i was denied access to by the mother . the mother has always known my where abouts via my family and has recieved welfare in the past . i have had changes in employment and can not afford this much money. nor can i afford my lawyer to represent me any longer. i dont feel i was represented effctively and im not sure if i should just go into hiding for the rest of my life or attempt to fight this with little to no money. any suggestions???
