Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts
Can I move out?
Hi, I'm 15 years old and me and my parents don't get along very well. If you were to visit my house you would think everything was fine but there is a lot of internal conflict between me and them. Everytime I'm at my house or around my parents I get so angry, frustrated, and stressed. It might be because of past events. They have never hurt me physically but they have emotionally. Is it possible that i could move in with my friend and her mother? Is it possible that her mother could obtain custody of me?

Re: Can I move out?
At 15 years old you cannot move out and your friend's mother cannot have custody of you without your parents permission.
There is a legal process whereby a 16 year old can seek to be emancipated. What that means is you become an independent person as though you were an adult. However, your parents will have no obligation to support you in any way.
However, I caution you that this is an extreme response to what is a common teenage angst with respect to one's parents. I can tell you that the frustration and anger you feel is not uncommon. I strongly suggest that you talk to a school counselor and your parents to see if there is a way to relieve this situation without fleeing your family.
I wish you success in life and hope that you are able to work out your problems with your parents.
