Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

non custodial fathers rights

I have just discovered from public documentation that is several years old, that my ex wife remarried some time ago. In this same dated document I saw that my son's last name was not used, rather her new married name. This to me indicates some sort of adoption/name change took place outside of Massachusetts involving the new husband, and without my being notified.

I do not object to her adoption actions as they are likely the best for my son. however if, as I have come to somewhat understand, I should have been informed and my parental obligation changed/ended upon my sons adoption, then I have likely been defrauded out of many thousands of dollars during which time I have been living hand to mouth.

How can I verify if adoption took place and if found to be so what is my recourse? Also how would this affect my obligation as the non-custodial parent?

Thank you in advance for your advice

Re: non custodial fathers rights

If you know the county your wife and son now reside, you can check with the probate court in that county. You can also check the county records where you were divorced.
