obligation

if i marry a man with dual custody of his two children from a previous marriage, do i have any legal obligation to them if something were to happen to him?

The short answer is no, unless you undertake to seek custody of the children for some reason or the mother relinquishes her custody.

The term you are looking for is joint custody and upon your future husband's death the children become the sole custody of their mother.
